“GTA 6” Exclusive First Look Tops Netflix Charts with 31.1 Million Views in Four Days

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Netflix’s extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) became the platform’s most-watched title last week, despite only having a six-hour window of exclusivity before being released on YouTube.
Between its debut on Thursday, August 27, at 3:00 PM ET and Sunday, August 30 (the cutoff for Netflix’s weekly Top 10 rankings), the 27-minute special garnered 31.1 million views.
The extended look at Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated title, which marks a brand-new entertainment category for Netflix, entered this week’s English-language films list. The video reached the #1 spot in 87 of the 93 countries where Netflix tracks global data.
For comparison, as of Tuesday, the video Grand Theft Auto VI: Deep Dive had racked up over 17 million views on Rockstar Games’ official YouTube channel alone. Following its exclusive debut on Netflix, the video was posted to YouTube by Rockstar Games at 9:00 PM the same Thursday.
It should be noted that Netflix and YouTube calculate views differently. Netflix defines a view as total watch hours divided by runtime, meaning if a household watches a program twice, it is counted as only one view. YouTube, however, counts a view as soon as a video begins playing (including shorts, rewatches, or partial plays).
According to Netflix and Rockstar Games (a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive), all footage shown in Grand Theft Auto VI: Deep Dive was captured entirely from gameplay and in-game scenes running on a PlayStation 5 console (the game is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S). This program represents the most extensive look at the title since two trailers were released over the past three years.
The special features the game’s main protagonists, Jason and Lucia, in both cinematic and gameplay footage set in the fictional Vice City, offering a prelude to the game’s overall storyline.
Taking second place on the top 10 English-language films list was The Whisper Man, trailing at a distance with 23.2 million views.
In the TV section, the documentary The Death of the Pastor’s Wife took the top spot with 19 million views, while Season 3 of Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black ranked second with 13 million views.
